1 The synthesis and spectroscopical characterization of the applicational properties (e.g. acidity, solubility, binding of analytes, equilibria in solutions) of phenylboronic compounds. Such compounds may interact with diols, anions, polymer systems, forming supramolecular systems with applications in many fields of chemistry. This interaction constitutes also the molecular mechanism of biological action of phenylboronic compounds, which is also the subject of studies.
2 Recently, a new generation of compounds – Ionic liquids (ILs) – has been of particular interest from the point of view of applied research. They are defined as compounds that have a melting point below 100oC. Ionic liquids are made up of a large organic, often asymmetrical cation and a smaller organic or inorganic anion. Extremely low volatility and a number of unique properties of ionic liquids, i.e. low vapor pressure, non-flammability, high thermal and chemical stability, high heat capacity, the wide temperature range for the liquid state and total or partial miscibility in water and other organic solvents make them extremely attractive from the point of view of research and application in future technologies. My team deals with the synthesis, purification, quantitative analysis, physicochemical measurements and the use of ionic liquids in modern technologies.
3 Chemistry of weakly-coordinating anions – synthesis of alkali metal salts and ionic liquids containing weakly-coordinating anions, design of new synthesis routes, optimization and upscaling of syntheses, design and modeling of new compounds/moieties, development of new weakly-coordinating anions for applications in electrochemistry and related fields, synthesis of composite materials, physicochemical, electrochemical and spectroscopic investigation of organic compounds. Chemistry of imidazole derivatives, synthesis of stable organic anions without hydrogen or halogen atoms.
