1 Design, preparation and characterization of catalysts for large-scale industrial chemical processes of significant economic importance and functional materials used in electromobility, energy storage and production and hydrogen technologies for sustainable development. Current activity is focused around the research, development and implementation of novel, more efficient cobalt catalysts for processes of ammonia synthesis, decomposition and oxidation, where ammonia is used as raw material, fuel or hydrogen carrier.
2 Novel materials for hydrogen economy and renewable energy systems. Chemistry, physical chemistry and electrochemistry of functional materials such as electrolytes for water electrolysis, galvanic and fuel cells, electrode materials, materials for micro and optoelectronics. Scope covers molecular engineering, manufacturing of materials by means of i.e. mechano-synthesis and sol-gel technique and their laboratory scale application. Development of immitance, electroanalytical and terahertz spectroscopy based characterization techniques.

Crystallization and research on the crystal structure and electrical and magnetic properties of inorganic and hybrid functional materials (superconductors, magnetic materials, thermoelectric materials and semiconductors) for potential applications in energy conversion, signal detection systems, microwave and thermoelectric techniques. Research on electrocrystallization processes and electrochemical intercalation of layered transition metal chalcogenides. Synthesis and study of rheological properties of complex fluids and electrorheological materials (fluids, gels and elastomers).
