The area of research covers several issues related to the design and assessment of the properties of polymer materials and their composites. Much of the work concerns the flammability characteristics of polymers and the search for new, environmentally friendly flame retardants. The research aims to search for sustainable material solutions with reduced adverse environmental impact, by replacing some synthetic substances with raw materials of plant origin. The scope of the research includes the analysis of flammability, smoke emission and toxicity of decomposition or burning products; an important issue is also determining the impact of the developed substances on other properties, including the mechanical and thermal properties, as well as microstructure of the modified polymers.
