  1. Human skin is one complex organ with an area of 1.5 - 2 m2. The essential role of the epidermal barrier is to limit the escape of water from the body. We can prove whether the barrier is working properly by measuring, among other things, the amount of water that permeates the stratum corneum per time unit (the so-called TEWL coefficient). These types of measurements are performed in dermatology or cosmetology clinics with the use of a tevameter. The tevameter measuring probe usually has the shape of a cylinder inside which sensors for measuring humidity (hygrometer) and temperature (thermometer) are installed, connected with the measuring modules of the device. The proposed research concerns the development of a class of sensors and measurement methods that meet the requirements that allow them to be used in tewameters dedicated to applications in IoT (e.g. cheap devices connected wirelessly to a smartphone). It is planned to conduct simulation tests of macromodels of physical probes (mechanical, thermal, diffusion issues), tests of sensors (e.g. micromechanical MEMS) and electronic signal processing systems, and then full characterization of the made models of tevameter probes and the developed measurement and calibration algorithms.
  2. The research concerns the development and testing of the class of sensors and measurement systems with minimum energy requirements (power, supply voltage) intended for use in the construction of IoT nodes. It is planned to conduct simulation tests of combined micromechanical (MEMS sensors) and electronic macromodels (signal processing systems) and then full characterization of the models of structures and systems made.
