The presence of potentially harmful alloying elements such as Al and V is a basic drawback of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy which is widely studied in orthopeadic application. These chemical elements can be released to the human body during tribocorrosion. Wear in the conditions as can be found in the human body is one of the most commonly occuring cause of the implant failure and can lead to revision surgery. This brings the necessity to find new titanium-based biomaterials with satisfactory tribological properties in the conditions as can be found in human body with the simulataneous lack of potentially toxic alloying elements. The aim of the PhD thesis is to understand and describe the degradation process of new biocompatible Ti-based biomaterials subjected to the tribocorrosion conditions.
