The subject of the implementation type doctoral thesis is located in the area of vacuum carburization of steel with the application of local activation. Low pressure vacuum carburizing is increasingly used in industry. It allows increasing the process temperature, reducing the processing time and controlling the amount of carbides produced. However the problem is the treatment of components with complex geometries in areas that are hard to reach by the atmosphere, such as deep holes or the bottom of gear wheel notches. At these locations the carburized layer is thinner and uneven, which causes a lack of appropriate strength and exploitation problems. Our preliminary studies prove the possibility of obtaining local activation of the carburization process and as a result a more uniform carburized layer thickness. The aim of the doctoral thesis will be to develop the basics of local carburization activation technology and its implementation on a dedicated modern industrial vacuum furnace.
