Dimensional control and metal flow inspection using machine vision is increasingly being used as a measurement technology that provides rapid and accurate representation of the final product. Therefore, the aim of the proposed direction of research is to develop a smart measurement technology in the field of sheet metal forming. The main user of such solutions is the automobile industry, where there are high expectations for this type of solutions. First, it is planned to develop an advanced algorithm in the field of digital image analysis to collect the data and to create a complex high-resolution displacement fields for analysed metal forming products. Second, it is expected to develop hardware solutions that combined both a vision based system and laser displacement sensor for sheet metal geometry reconstruction. The proposed solution incorporates the height measurement to the surface scanning technology to precisely identify the 3-dimensional surface geometry. Third, it is planned to develop a new method to experimentally predict of sheet metal failure, taking into account the deformation mechanism through digital image analysis of the surface microcracks formation. As a method to predict local surface cracking a cumulative microcracking phenomena is expected to be analysed.
