The research topic concerns the problem of flutter in the horizontal Ziegler column placed on a rough and moving surface. A friction force having a variable tracking component is transmitted through a roller attached transversely to the second column member. This component can cause a dynamic loss of system stability and lead to bifurcation of the equilibrium position into a stable or unstable limit cycle (flutter vibrations). The task is to build a mathematical model of the system and analytically check the results of the experiment carried out by D. Bigoni and G. Noselli (University of Trento), who proposed an interesting and innovative way to implement the tracking load in the Ziegler column. The task will be extended to the near-critical analysis of the system, in which the source of non-linearity is the force of Coulomb friction and the method of its transfer to the column.
