Current research is focused on applications of dispersed systems in medicine, mainly in drug delivery systems such as inhalers and intranasal atomizers. In this case, chemical engineering issues concern, among others: (i) hydrodynamics and mass transport in the respiratory tract; (ii) generation of micro- and nanometric particles suitable for inhalation drug delivery (product and formulation engineering issues); (iii) analysis of processes taking place in the presence of surfactants (e.g. (iii) analysis of processes taking place in the presence of surfactants (e.g. interaction of particles with the lung surface containing the pulmonary surfactant); (iv) filtration of aerosols; (v) calculation and physical modeling of aerosol particle deposition in the respiratory system. Research is carried out in collaboration with pulmonologists and with the support of scientific projects (e.g. NCN, commercial projects with pharmaceutical and medical device companies).
